Purple Belt is your next destination on the road to Black Belt. You should notice your training will begin to change at this level as our focus shifts to finishing! As you moved from White to Blue we took a lot of time on defense, and learning how to keep yourself safe. Using the foundation we learned to earn Blue, we now learn submissions and striking to create offense while moving from Blue to Purple.
Learning to become a complete Martial Artist is a process. In Eclectics we break that process down into five main levels (or Belts). We started by having you earn your White Belt. That evaluation phase of the White Belt was all about you learning how to be humble, learning how to trust those working with you, and preparing yourself mentally for the journey ahead. Those lessons helped you to build the defensive base that makes up the Blue Belt. This “defensive” process helped you learn how to control yourself on the ground so you do not panic, control the person attacking you so you can institute an offense plan, and you have learned how to control the situation so you can setup finishing moves that we will now learn.
Make sure you are keeping track of your training time, as you earn the three stripes of Blue Belt, and take your Purple Belt test. The boxing is all about power, the grappling is all about domination, and the finishing moves are about winning. Remember to hit hard, try for lots of submissions, and take your time to learn those sockets! The Eclectics system has a naming convention for the submissions that is designed to help you learn your submissions easier. The naming convention is also designed to help you with submission transitions from various positions. The fact is, there are thousands of submissions, and these same submissions can be applied from every position you can think of. The more important point to learn at this early stage is you do not need to concern yourself with learning every submission in the world. Just keep in mind the Purple Belt is designed to provide you with the knowledge to figure out every submission in the world.
